I just visited a web site that said that wheat bread is worse for you then white bread if you are a diabetic. This makes no sense to me as I always thought it was the opposite. Is that true? Please list your source. Thanks.

I really can’t answer the question. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I started reading labels. I found that there wasn’t much difference in the carb counts in the two breads. After looking around and reading all labels I found a ‘heart healthy’ bread made by Sara Lee. The heart healthy bread contains 45 calories and only 9g carbs per slice. That is the bread I now eat.
My understanding on the difference between the white and wheat bread is that it takes your body longer to process the wheat, thereby giving you more level readings without fast spiking and dropping. The carb counts are the same, but the sugars are different. It was confusing for me too, that’s why I kept looking.

I have found some foods such as celery, cabbage and broccoli to have a glycemic index number of zero? What does that say about the food. I know that glycemic has to do with carbs and those veggies have carbs sooo….
